World Map

World of Balance | World of Ruin

World of Ruin

This is the world map in the second half of the game. The title comes from the ruined state of the world after the Warring Triad loses their balance of power. This world is more fractured then the World of Balance, and much of it must be navigated using the Airship.

Note: Hover over locations on the map to see information about them, or scroll down past the map to see all the locations.

Locations

top

Albrook

The first town encountered by Celes in the World of Ruin, Albrook's citizens personify the mass despair and loss of hope in the wake of Kefka's slaughter. The once Empire-run commerce is now at a stand still, with both the remnants of the Imperial army and the tattered shopkeepers and bar owners simply wallowing in self-pity and memories of the past.

top

Colosseum

The Colosseum stands tall in the northwest, finally built as planned by the war-crazy coot. Fighters and monsters from all over gather here, along with some familiar faces. Come here if you wanna make a bet, but be careful what you wager!

top

Daryl's Tomb

A grave site for a friend of Setzer's. Complex and dangerous as it may be, it houses one of the world's most rare and sought after treasures. It also houses several undead denizens of the dark.

top

Doma Castle

Empty save for the few mice, Doma's silence and emptiness remain unchanged by Kefka's reign. However, some say spirits feast on the souls of persons who dwell here very long...

top

Duncan's House

Duncan is Sabin's trainer. If you bring Sabin to meet him, he may have one final lesson in store.

top

Ebot's Rock

Usually completely immersed underwater, Ebot's Rock arises every 1000 years, just to the north of Thamasa. Within its pitch black caves resides Hidon, a legendary beast sought by many a hunter, such as Strago, in his youth.

top

Fanatic's Tower

Imbedded in a mountain range and inaccessible by any way but air, the Tower of Kefka stands tall, with over 50 floors of magical demons and treasure. Followers of Kefka walk around in a trance here, their thoughts completely overridden with the urge to serve their demented master.

top

Figaro Castle

Burrowing down deep into the ground, Figaro Castle, while missing to the general public, remains underground, as it has...hit something. Despite its missing attendance from the world population, its intent on supporting the fall of Kefka remains strong.

top

Gau's Father's House

First found by Sabin, this is the residence of a odd fellow who continually thinks of you as a repairman. Rumors can lead you to believe that this is indeed Gau's estranged father.

top

Jidoor

Although at first seemingly unaffected by Kefka's reign and his terrifying Light of Judgement, a quick look around shows the gloom found in other towns. In fact, the mansion north of town is downright eerie.

top

Kefka's Tower

Constructed from several pieces of the continent flying together into one structure, this is Kefka's domain from which he looms over the world. Only accessible from the air, this is the last dance.

top

Kohlingen

Kohlingen is now a town full of broken-hearted people. Few of them look to the future anymore, but those who do could be quite helpful to you in your quest...

top

Maranda

Maranda, although spared by Kefka's Light of Judgement, seems just as oppressed even after the disappearance of the Empire. Struggling with utter boredom and despair, it still retains its high-end armor and weapons enough to be worth a visit.

top

Mobliz

Decimated by the Light of Judgement, Mobliz's at-home atmosphere died with the deaths of nearly all the adults in the town. The surviving children are bravely raised by three adults, one of whom should be valuable in your quest.

top

Narshe

One of the major casualties of Kefka's rule, Narshe falls from a once-near-regal standing to a ghost town. Monsters roam unchecked through the once populous streets and nary a soul can be found in the town at all...the moogles having disappeared, also, Narshe is sans most civilized life.

top

Nikeah

Still an avid port town, Nikeah now attracts legions of pirates, all intent on looking for the rest of the unsealed earth's treasures.

top

Opera House

While not changing very much, since it still has contact with cities, the Opera House still has problems with getting shows done on time. Like big Earth Dragons, for one.

top

Phoenix Cave

A unique geographic location, this cave is found where the mountains form into a star. Emperor Gestahl hid a very important treasure here, and you aren't the only one interested. The Phoenix Cave is filled with so many traps, it usually takes two parties of adventurers to brave its perils.

top

Solitary Island

An island, as the name implies, completely cut off from civilization. Here you can see the first dramatic effects of the apocalypse Kefka unleashed. Celes awakens here, with Cid caring for her.

top

South Figaro

South Figaro, despite being nailed by Kefka numerous times, is one of the few towns with renewed spirit and hope. Many people boast of their indomitable will, and although the new geography isolates the town, it remains the bustling feeling it always had.

top

Thamasa

While riddled by despair, Thamasa still holds its "down home" atmosphere. Generally unaffected by the ruin, residents generally focus on the events around them rather than gloom, such as the unearthing of a historic landmark.

top

Tzen

Tzen still rests north of Albrook, even after the reshaping of the planet. However, when Celes arrives, it soon becomes an example of Kefka's sheer power as the small town is hit by the Light of Judgement.

top

Zozo

Seemingly unaffected in the World of Ruin, this time around you should look into Mt. Zozo, a hill with mountaintop thieves and even bears running rampant along the bridges and caves.
